What to do in an emergency
Keep up to date on the status of the emergency by listening to the radio or local television station.
Use your disaster preparedness plan.
Grab Your Emergency Kit.
Stay in one place until it is safe to leave or unless you are told to evacuate.
Evacuating
If you are told to evacuate your home then that means real danger exists and you should evacuate immediately. If you have to evacuate your home, you should take your emergency kit, identification, and anything that is absolutely essential such as a phone or important family documents. You should also notify your out of town contact if you have time to do so.
Shut off the water and electricity, take your pets and lock up your home.
Do not return to your residence until it is absolutely safe and authorities have authorized you to do so.
