It's not a secret that the most important steps sometimes are the easiest ones. It's also true that a few small changes during every day life cannot only keep you generally organized but may also save a live or property. In the first place it's necessary for every to have a list of all important phone numbers and addresses accessible for everyone in your family. Of course such list will almost necessarily have 911 number at the top of it. However, it would be absolutely reasonable to have coordinates of local hospital, cardiac center, poison control, your family doctor, dentist, veterinarian, pharmacy, taxi and public transportation. Make sure that your kids know their parents' work numbers, neighbors' and other relatives' coordinates. In the meantime you should also know your kids' high school or daycare center contact information. It's important for everyone to know where to call if something happens.
Another good thing is to make a complete written list of your entire home, work and other inventory, including description, serial number and image of each item. In addition to duplicates of your important documents you can keep such info in any reliable place outside of your home in order to prevent total lost during a disaster.
Following the same principle it would be certainly reasonable to always keep in your wallet following information: your identification (driver's license or ID card), medical prescription, blood type, your family members' contact information. Try to keep your car's fuel tank at least half full on daily basis. Be sure to always have at least $150 in cash with you not only in case of a massive disaster but for any kind of emergency as well.
