Prepare for Disaster at the Office

Find out what the evacuation plans are at your place of employment. You may also want to ask your employer about the emergency procedures should you and other colleagues be stuck at work for a long period of time.

SCHOOL OR DAYCARE

Make sure you are aware of the emergency procedures at your child’s daycare or school. How will you be notified if there is an emergency? Are there plans in place for someone else to pick your child if you are unable to? Make sure your child’s school or daycare has up-to-date contact information at all times in case of emergency.

HOUSEHOLD PETS

Make plans for your pets in case of emergency. Pets are not allowed in some shelters and hotels so you will need to have an alternate place for them to stay. It is best if you have a family member or friend willing to take care of your pet. Pet boarding facilities are another option.

SPECIALTY CARE

If you or a family member has special needs, it would be helpful to have a support system in place. A support system can help make sure you are taken care of and have everything you need in case of an emergency.

Keep a copy of all important medical information in your disaster preparedness kit, and give a copy to someone whom you trust and will know what to do with the information in an emergency.

Ask your doctor about providing a two-week supply of medication and/or supplies. You may not have access to a pharmacy so it is important to make sure you have enough medication on hand in case of emergency.
